BTW, If
you are intimidated by change, you are not alone. Some people thrive on change.
They look at it as a new challenge or adventure. Other people, probably most
people, fear change. They fear that it will disrupt their routine and the
normalcy of life. Like it or not, change is inevitable in both your personal
and professional life. There is no doubt about it, some changes aren’t fun. But
there are many changes that are beneficial to you and those changes will help
you grow.
Now to
the point, Is Sybase ASE journey is at the END of the ROAD?
Here is
some bitter NEWS and more good NEWS.. Officially Sybase Road is at the end by Dec
2020, but not the ASE as you can continue your journey with SAP ASE which is just a new brand but on the same Road. You also can try a journey on the express-highway using SAP HANA PATH with little more efforts, yet you keep the zeal as many features of HANA are from ASE and IQ.
BTW, I
always insist/suggest you to accelerate your journey vide learning other leading DBMSs like PostgreSQL or MySQL at ease as your strong Sybase expertise and experience helps a lot besides continuously update/upgrade yourself wuth SAP ASE new versions. Another interesting fact is that PostgreSQL (not ingress) is almost started same time as Sybase ASE in early 90s and many similarities in the Database Architecture, SQL Coding, functionalities, Query optimization and Partitioning but now in top
acceleration especially due to CLOUD vendors support and endorsement as this product is an open source product. Dont forget that these RDBMSs also needs similar kind of driving skills of ASE (Might be with
AMT so really needed considerably little efforts).
Finally, Here is the latest
Road Map of Sybase ASE/ SAP ASE and upgrade yourself with additional learning i.e. Latest model of the same car or a new car with kinda AMT :)
Glimpses:
- SAP ASE 15.7.x End of maintenance and support is Dec 2020.
- SAP ASE 16.0 SP02.Patch Level 9 has been released. This is the last planned patch and end of maintenance and support will be in Dec 2020.
- SAP ASE 16.0 SP03 Patch levels will be released quarterly starting now.
- SAP ASE 16.0 SP04 new feature release will be available in Q4 2020 for general applications.
